Windows XP very slow in booting up
Problem:
My Windows XP PC becomes very
slow in booting up. I have done disk defragmention, deleted internet temp
files, Scaned PC for virus, no virus found. Still my PC is very slow in
booting up and take hours to shutdown it. Please let me know what else I
should do to speed up my PC.
Solution:
1. Scan your computer for
malware and spyware. Make sure your computer free from malware and spyware.
2. Click on Start menu and click on Run menu. Type msconfig press enter.
System Configuration Utility window will open. Click on Startup tab and look
for unknown programs which will start at the time of booting. Uncheck
unwanted program files, click OK button close the window. Restart the
computer.
3. Run chkdsk to fix possible disk errors.
4. Check Event Viewer for possible system error and Warning messages. Fix
them if you find any errors.
5. Empty Windows\PREFETCH folder. This will help speed up loading programs.
