Data on the clipboard is not the same size and shape as the selected area. Do you want to paste the data anyway?

Cannot change part of a merged cell.

Problem:

When I try to paste data on to a merged cell in Excel sheet. I am getting following error message "Data on
the clipboard is not the same size and shape as the selected area. Do you want to past the data anyway?"
"Cannot change part of a merged cell." Its a customized excel sheet I need to update this sheet from
external data.

Is there any way to paste data into merged cell. Thanks, 

Solution:

There are two workaround for this issue.

1. Paste your data into formula bar instead of pasting into a cell.

2. Select the cell and press F2 (function key) and paste the data.
